Impact of world water day celebration at samburu county

Today, 27th March 2023, the MD Samburu Water & Sanitation Company (SAWASCO) joined other county leaders led by H.E Lelelit, governor Samburu county to meet the PS State Department for Water and Sanitation Dr. Paul Kipronoh Ronoh in a meeting held in Maji House, Nairobi.

This was a follow up meeting arising from discussions held in Samburu during the World Water Day celebrations 2023 that were held at Lodokejek.

The purpose of the meeting was to identify and prioritize water projects in Samburu that are expected to yield high impact on the livelihood of the Samburu community which is an ASAL area.

The meeting agreed to prioritize the following projects.
1 Archer’s Post Water project – 100m
2 Wamba Water Extension – 100m
3 Suguta Water Project – 100m
4 Kisima Water Project – 50m
5 Maralal/Lpartuk Water – 50m
6 Baragoi Water Project – 100m

Speaking during the meeting PS Ronoh said the Ministry will fund the projects in two phases stating that basing on the current budget allocation the Ministry will make an initial funding of Ksh 250m from the current financial allocation to kick of the projects implementation.

He further said the project implementation will commence in the course of this year and the second phase to be implemented in the the next Financial year.

Dr Ronoh directed the Samburu leadership to come up with a county water master plan for Samburu County which will speak about sewage and water which is the future for the Samburu community.

The meeting ended up by signing an MoU on Prioritized Water Supply Project for Samburu County.
